The 9th annual Health Disparities Luncheon brings together health professionals, organizations, and community members to bring awareness to health disparities among African Americans and focuses on a specific new topic each year with a keynote speaker that is a leading professional on the topic as well as a member of the community that has been personally touched by the disparity. The Luncheon is also a kick-off event to the annual Wellness Village which takes place the following day.

Wellness Village is a free family event open to the public that brings together clinics, health organizations, and the community to promote health education and to provide free and critical health screenings in a fun, lively multicultural environment. The County health department and community clinics and hospitals consider Wellness Village as the only opportunity in the area to reach large numbers of people of color for effective and efficient health screenings in order to meet their organizations’ service goals. Village screenings include dental checks, hearing/vision, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, kidney function, and flu shots are provided. Other activities include massage therapy, food, live music, child’s play area, and cooking demonstrations, and health-related vendor exhibits.
